Partners in IPM: Working Groups
Midwest Weather Working Group
Led by Mark Gleason, Iowa State University, firstname.lastname@example.org
We propose renewal of the Midwest Weather Working Group to foster region-wide and nationwide communication on use of weather-based IPM tools among agricultural meteorologists, pest scientists and IPM stakeholders that leads to new collaborations and breakthroughs in research and outreach. Objectives: 1) conduct two meetings with AgGateway Inc. to develop standards for pest modeling and exchange of model products between web-based platforms and users; 2) Convene a broader MWWG meeting to facilitate interdisciplinary research and publications; 3) convene pest scientists and meteorologists to advance the development of degree-day models to improve management of cucumber beetles, squash bug, and squash vine borer in cucurbit crops; and 4) collaborate on proposals, refereed papers, and trade journal articles to advance application of weather-based information in IPM. The project meets the NCIPMC goal of reducing the environmental and human health risks associated with managing pests.
